Private Label Skincare Manufacturer in Florida — Launch Your Brand From 50 Units

Javier Guandalini

Most private label skincare manufacturers will tell you to come back when you're ready to order 500 units. Some want 1,000. A few require a full production run before they'll even show you a formula. For an independent esthetician, spa owner, or first-time brand founder, that's a $10,000–$30,000 barrier before you've sold a single bottle.

It doesn't have to work that way. This guide covers what private label skincare manufacturing actually involves, what realistic costs look like at small quantities, and how to evaluate a Florida-based manufacturer before committing to anything.

What Private Label Skincare Manufacturing Actually Means

Private label means you're purchasing an existing, professionally formulated product and branding it as your own. The manufacturer has already done the R&D, stability testing, and production setup. You choose the formula, supply your label artwork, and receive finished, retail-ready product with your brand name on it.

This is different from custom formulation, where a manufacturer develops a brand-new formula from scratch to your specifications. Custom formulation takes 6–18 months, requires significant minimum orders, and costs $15,000–$100,000+ before you have a single unit in hand. For most spa owners and brand starters, private label is the right entry point.

What to Expect at 50–100 Units

At small quantities, your economics look roughly like this:

  • Product cost: $8–$25 per unit depending on formula complexity and container size
  • Label printing: $0.25–$1.50 per label for short runs (50–200 units) from digital print vendors like Sticker Mule or StickerYou
  • Labeling service: $0.50–$2.00 per unit if the manufacturer applies labels for you
  • Total landed cost: roughly $10–$28 per unit at 50-unit quantities

If you're retailing at $35–$65 per unit (standard for spa-grade private label serums), your gross margin at these costs is 50–70%. That's a viable business from the very first order.

What You Need Before You Place Your First Order

Before contacting any manufacturer, have these ready:

1. Your label artwork

You need a print-ready label file — typically a vector PDF or AI file at the correct dimensions for your chosen container. If you don't have a designer, Canva has label templates that work for early-stage brands. Eventually you'll want a proper graphic designer, but for a first run, Canva-quality labels are fine. Your manufacturer will tell you the exact label dimensions once you've chosen a container.

2. Your product claims

You need to decide what your label says the product does. In the US, cosmetic claims are regulated — you can say a product "hydrates," "softens," or "improves the appearance of fine lines," but you cannot say it "treats," "heals," or "cures" anything. Your manufacturer should be able to help you understand what claims are appropriate for a given formula, but ultimately the brand owner (you) is responsible for label compliance.

3. A business name and entity

You don't need an LLC to place a first order, but you'll want one before you start selling. An LLC protects your personal assets, lets you open a business bank account, and gives your brand a professional foundation. In Florida, filing an LLC costs $125 and takes about a week online.

Questions to Ask a Private Label Manufacturer Before Ordering

Not all manufacturers are equal. Here's what to ask before you commit:

  • Where is the product manufactured? US-made means FDA cosmetic regulations apply, batch records exist, and you can get ingredient traceability documentation.
  • What is the actual minimum order quantity? Some list "no MOQ" but require a minimum dollar spend. Ask for the specific unit minimum per SKU.
  • Can I get a sample before ordering? Any reputable manufacturer will send you a sample or sell you a small test quantity before a full run.
  • Who applies the labels — me or you? Labeling service adds cost but saves significant time, especially for small teams.
  • What is the shelf life of the formula? For serums and water-based products, 12–24 months from manufacture date is standard.
  • Do you provide a Certificate of Analysis (CoA)? A CoA confirms the product meets its stated specifications. Professional buyers and retailers often require this.

Why Florida Is a Good Base for Private Label Skincare

Florida has a growing cosmetic manufacturing cluster, particularly in South Florida, driven partly by proximity to Latin American markets and the large spa and wellness industry in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. For US brands, sourcing from a Florida manufacturer means:

  • Faster shipping to East Coast and Southeast markets
  • No import duties or customs delays
  • Easier in-person visits for quality checks or new product discussions
  • Same regulatory environment as any US manufacturer (FDA cosmetic regulations)
